I finished Lotería! Ugh it's such a sad story. But so beautiful. So heartfelt. So honest. And very well written. I think it was a creative story told in a blunt but charming way. I love it. I highly recommend it, especially for the Latino community. Those phrases and references are so rewarding. And I think it's important to remember to support Latinos in literature and popular entertainment in general. Proud of you, Mario Alberto Zambrano! You restores my faith in my people as writers :)

I Love Storytime!

I'm spending the majority of this week at Karla's. As you know, I'm also reading Lotería. I chose it as the book for January in the book club that Karla started, so she's also reading it currently. We're actually at the same place, we realized. So today, while Karla waited for my nails to dry (they're so pretty, go look at the picture she posted!), she read to me. We laughed because it's such a vulgar book and there were just so many words she had to skip haha. But it was still really nice, going through the journey together and bouncing theories back and forth. Story time is the best!

Ven Que Te Quiero Ahora

My copy of Lotería came in the mail today! I'm only 44 pages in right now, but I can tell this will be a quick read. I like it already. It feels very serious for an 11 year old protagonist, but at the same time it makes so much sense. By 11 you're in 6th grade. Middle school age. And she's been through so much. Just because you're young doesn't mean life is any less important. ESPECIALLY when someone goes through what this girl has. I dunno how the rest of the book club will feel about it, but I'm happy with my choice. PLUS finishing early means I'll get to start on the box set of John Green books my cousin got me for Christmas! (Or maybe I'll just watch more Doctor Who & Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Whoops!).
