In The Middle Of Our Street

During my freshman orientation, my peer mentor got us to go to the house of President Casey. We got to look around the lovely home, and have cupcakes made by his loving wife. We had a nice chat. It was kind of amazing.

This year, Mariah and I were able to do the same for our mentees. Seeing the joy in their faces made everything so flipping worth it. It felt great. I love these kids and I hope I'm able to do good by them.

Two In One

August 21 - Thursday

Seeing almost all my mentees having fun at Karaoke. Oh man. Even better was the fact that about 4 of them actually got up there and sang. Precious babies! How I love thee.

August 22 - Friday

Working with Gené and the theatre department. This is what I know. I am not the best at leading people back and forth across campus and getting them to express interest in everything. But theatre? Theatre I can do. It's all I do. It's what I love. And I'm so glad that these kids seem to love it too :)

I Survived

Moving like almost 500 freshmen into their dorms is not as easy as it sounds. And if it already doesn't sound easy to you, it's still not as easy as that sounds. Bless. So many stairs. Dunno how I did it, especially with no AC. But I survived.

I met my mentees. So far, I basically love them all. They are all very nice and personable. And they have a strong interest in this class which is what I think is most important. I had butterflies and was actually in kind of a low mood because I was sure I didn't do my job well. But they're all so great and I'm enjoying getting to know them. They say they're having fun and liking the campus, which is awesome. I hope we enjoy the year together. And they truly are a sweet bunch.

However. My ABSOLUTE HIGHLIGHT of the day was a pair of letters. I got your letter. I got your sister's letter. I can't reply til I go home and get all my envelopes and stamps and such. But I truly wanted to cry when I saw them. They came at just the right time. I love you guys and I love the support you show me even from forever away. You're my favorite people <3

Get Hype

TRAINING IS OVER. IT WAS SO SHORT. MY DOOR DECS LOOK AWESOME. THE FRESHMEN ARE COMING TOMORROW. I'm going crazy with happiness and joy and all the excitement. Here's to an amazing year.

I Met One!

I MET ONE OF MY MENTEES! EEP! I wasn't meant to exactly. The new kiddos aren't supposed to be here until Wednesday and we are still in training.

But one mentee I've been in extra contact with is here early for athletic stuff. She saw me in the dining hall and asked if I was Sammy. I didn't recognize her but she recognized me and came ot say hi! I'm so excited! :D Ahhh I can't wait to meet more. It's happening!

Training

Peer Mentor training!!! Oh man every one is so nice. And my team is awesome. And the games were fun. And Dean V is amazing. And the binder is so organized. And I love seeing all my friends again. And I have laughed so hard today. This whole experience has just been so helpful and I'm glad I get to do this. I'm so grateful I've been trusted with this job. It'll be amazing. Day 1 of training, over! 3 more to go. Ah waking up early <3
