Elena of Avalor

Karla sent me a picture of the ceremony from Instagram during work today. Princess Elena of Avalor, Disney's first Latin princess, has been inducted into the Official Disney Princess Court. We have our first Hispanic princess.

I cried. I actually cried when I saw the picture at work. I know that probably sounds ridiculous. But I don't care. I spent SO. MANY. YEARS. Swearing up and down that there would never be a Hispanic princess. I said that Latin Americans didn't have royalty like that and so Disney may never see a purpose in making one up. At the very least, I doubted it would happen in my lifetime. But wow. I was wrong. I've never been so happy to be wrong.

I cannot express what this means to me or how important this is for young Latinas everywhere. These are such happy tears I'm shedding. Little girls will see a beautiful female leader who speaks their language and has an abuelo and an abuela just like they do. I can't believe this is real. It's happened. And I could not be more proud. I'm just going to cry forever, and I do not care. This is real magic.

Bring A Paintbrush, We're Painting the Town

Reason 206: I'm working on my pledge letter again teehee. And I'm PAINTING! Seriously, when was the last time that a non-visual arts major had to paint for school. SO FUN. It's like I need to get paint all over my hands because I was always so scared of getting anything dirty ever as a kid. I'M SO EXCITED FOR THIS TO BE MADE REAL. I really want to ask my Big what he/she thinks of it. AH. So much anticipation.

Down In New Orleans

Reason 199: Today is Fat Tuesday! Also known as Mardi Gras! One day before lent. I don't participate in lent because I'm not Catholic. But it's still a fun thing to think about. Even our cafeteria decided to celebrate with food often found in Louisiana. Yum, red beans & rice. You know what that means! It's a Princess & the Frog kind of day.

Joining the Club

Reason 198: So you know about the Official Disney Princess Court, yes? There's a legitimate court of princesses. And every time a princess is added, an official induction ceremony is held by Disney. Turns out Merida (from Brave) is being inducted this June. HOW COOL IS THAT! The first Pixar princess in the court :) It brings me great joy.

Dressing Up, Looking Good, & Feeling So Alive

Reason 95: Halloween. First time I dressed up in ages. Seeing all the costumes. Getting all done up. Taking pictures. Eating candy. MAKING OUR OWN STORY. I absolutely love this holiday. Today was just fun.

This is Emma. She's my white twin. This was decided during Hairspray. Interestingly enough, the costumes were not planned! (I'm SO GLAD I got that haircut!!)
