A successful Friday! Today I actually managed to get some decent stuff done at work. It was also my boss' birthday! Dr. Gowda, the one who has me as his surgery coordinator. We got him a yummy, cute little cake and everything. It was a nice moment. And later, when UberEats randomly showed up at our office, we realized it was his beautiful, loving wife sending her hubby lunch for his special day. How sweet is that? I really like her. And I really like the two of them together. I can't explain hehe they just make me happy.
Today I take apart the Jesus puzzle (my January one) and start working on February. It's a collection of pies! Which sounds really good right about now. I've been craving cookies or a donut or like a SOLID dessert all day. Cake is too squishy to count haha.
I had plans with Xabiel but he had to cancel. Which means I spend the night in. Honestly? So freaking relaxing. I'm watching One Day at a Time. This show is so good. I already adored it and all the issues it tackled. But season 2 is something new. And I'm obsessed. And as much as I laugh and love, it also really hits home. The episode I just watched was about depression, how one character realized she'd have to live with it forever and she can't just go off meds and stop therapy expecting to suddenly be cured. The intensity was real. I can't describe it but, knowing that my depression feels like hers sometimes and that this time period is usually when it hits its peak, it really just pulled at my heart. Full tears. And to hear that her mother, who doesn't really get mental health and never knew how best to support her, could finally admit to not fully understanding but still wanting her daughter to do whatever necessary to be happy REALLY. REALLY. Hit my gut. I don't think I can stress how important that is. Even if it was from a fictional character, I think I really needed to hear it.
I texted Karla when the episode ended and told her I was sobbing. Because I was, no exaggeration. No giant heaving breaths or anything dramatic but honest to goodness tears that will not stop. And I told her I needed chocolate and ice cream and blankets. She sent me "I'M HERE FOR YOUUUUUU!!!!!!" followed by emojis of chocolate and ice cream and beds with blankets. If there's anyone I can count on it's my sister.

The Couples That Last
We took several minutes of our rehearsal today just to listen to Nick talking about his wife. It was adorable. Oh my goodness he lit up talking about her. And it wasn't like all smitten and cutesy? He laughed at her silliness and complimented her good points and really just genuinely saw so many great things about her and was so happy to be with her. He, like, loves talking about her because she is so fascinating to him. How lovely is that?
Day 11: Fuzzy
Meet Demetrius, another member of our stuffed and lovable family
PS: Carrie has two new songs. One with her boyfriend, and one about an ex. And both are very dear to my heart for very different reasons.

Love. Pure Love.
Jaroll had a special today at church. He played his trumpet, as he so often does. But he dedicated it to us. The college kids. The four people who are leaving throughout this month. He thanked God for the impacts we had in his life. And one by one, he said how we made a difference. He thanked me for helping him find joy in every day. I was already crying. And then he got to his sisters, and it took absolutely everything for me not to let those tears run. Today was the wrong day to wear eye liner. He played three songs. The last was my mother's favorite hymn slash one of my favorites to sing. My heart was already so full.
When we left, Amaris (little girl about 9 years old) said "They want you to go to the classroom". Who is they and which classroom? I asked several people but eventually figured it out. Bryan taught class that day for the kids about six to eight. And they made cards for the four students who were heading to school. And all the itty bitties signed it. Everyone just wants to make me cry today.
We were making plans to decorate our classrooms for VBS in the afternoon and I had been at peace about it all week because KARLA WAS HELPING ME HALLELU! Nothing can go wrong with my sister by my side. All week she had helped me brainstorm how to make the room look awesome and she went shopping with me so we could have all the perfect materials. We were set. Except they told me she wasn't allowed to come. They said, "We told people from church that they couldn't come. It's only those directly involved with VBS. So she probably shouldn't come either". I panicked. My heart sank. I had so much joy and they shot it down with a couple of sentences. I called her and she of course was hurt and confused. But it didn't matter. She rushed over to my house to explain how everything should be done. She made some of the crafts before getting there. And she stayed IN THE CAR OUTSIDE THE CHURCH to help make more and even advise me should I need anything. My mom told her to leave because the situation made her uncomfortable, but Karla was there. Because of her love of God and of me, she wanted to help so badly. I am grateful for that lady every single day.

I sat with Mariah for a bit as she talked to a dear old IT man in McDaniel's library. And he decided to tell us stories of his younger days when he was a rebel. And he taught us about the best way to get a woman's attention. He told us the story of when he first saw his wife. He was at a party and from across the way he saw "the most beautiful woman in the world". He was so absolutely amazed, and he saw she was walking towards their party. And then she was walking right towards their friend group. And then he, as eloquently and suavely as any man has ever wooed a lady, said "uhh.. ahhh... ughh.. hh... can I get you a beer?" and she responded "that would be lovely" and she smiled at him. And he went into the kitchen and actually took some time to catch his breath. He told us he doesn't believe in love at first sight. "It's all bullsh*t". But they have been happily married for about 27 years. Their anniversary is coming up. She is apparently the email admin at McDaniel, so I'm guessing they come into work together. Congratulations to the happy couple.
This song. Is going. To get me through. A LOT. I can feel it.

I met Mama!!! It was actually the sweetest thing ever. I met my Little's mommy. And she was an absolute darling. So sweet and loving. And she gave me a huge hug right away. I can tell she is a kind person with a lot of love in her heart. She joked with me and thanked me for stuff I gave Mandy. I just. UGH. It's so cool that she is so involved with Mandy's life here. It's a good relationship. And it's also hilarious how much she wants to meet my niece. I'd be more than happy to arrange something :3 As an extreme bonus act of kindness, Mandy's parents donated to my Relay for Life page today. I am so very blessed.
EDIT: I forgot about this last night cause I was so sleepy, but it needs to be added. Something else that happened is tied for first and I need to mention it.
There is a man. There is a man I love dearly. His name is Fabrizio; I'm sure you're sick of that name. He is a friend of mine from church who is close to my heart. I might've loved him for the rest of my life, but I am a strong believer in God's plan. And he, to me, is proof of God slowly preparing us for incredible things.
I may not be so happy in my church anymore. I may need to leave soon. I need to run because I honestly cannot take it anymore. But he's not running. Slowly, respectfully, and intelligently, he has been fighting and making a difference. I don't even know if he's aware. But I truly believe that God has given him the task of taking this misguided congregation and leading them back to the right path. It's a hard job, and it made me realize that he will need a stronger support system than me. He doesn't need someone who has to run; he needs someone who will stand and fight with him. I'm more than happy to support him from afar. And watching him go along this path brings joy to my heart. He's been helping direct hymns for quite some time now. For a couple of years, he has been the President of the Youth Group. For maybe a year now, he has been a teacher for kids about 7 to 10. At the beginning of the year, he was also made a deacon. He knows how to speak to these people and how to make them see the light. It's incredible to watch.
Last night, he told me he preached for the first time. He actually led a service. I almost cried when I heard. He said it went very well and he got a lot of compliments. I told him how happy I was and that I wish I could've seen it, but I was sure I'd get the chance over the summer. He said I probably would because he, along with Jaroll and Bryan, would start preaching regularly with our usual Hermano Arce. My heart is singing. This generation has so much promise, and they are doing such good things in the eyes of the Lord. They, in my opinion, are the hope for this church. And watching it all unfold fills my heart with love and song in ways I cannot eloquently describe. I trust that boy with my life, and certainly as my spiritual guide. And I hope that the rest of our congregation will continue to do the same because if there is one thing I'm certain of, it is that God is going to do amazing things in the life of this amazing man.

Ethan Time
I finally did the scary thing. It was really scary and I thought I was gonna get judged. I didn't. My counselor is lovely. God bless her.
I spoke to my counselor about Ethan. And it was nice. I dunno. I don't tire of telling people how we met. 'Cause in all honesty it's a funny story. It's sweet. But I told her all of it. Some stuff, I have already said a million times. Others, she made me realize for the first time. But she laughed with me. And she sympathized. And she understood. It was really nice. It's always good to be reminded that, even though it was only two weeks, all the feelings are valid. The joy. The affection. The hurt. The confusion. The longing. The sadness. The annoyance and anticipation and wonder and sadness and nostalgia. I was so scared to tell her about all of it. Because the whole experience is just this giant mess in my life that could've been so easily avoided at so many different points. But it happened. And I'm still so absolutely glad it happened. Maybe not the lying. But the rest of it. It was magic.
She gave me a new tool for it. "Ethan Time". Obviously, I'm going to feel things. And I need to think about him. If I straight up try to ignore and just get angry or judgmental when the thoughts come up, the thoughts will just get even louder and stronger. But I also can't pretend like obsessing is going to give me all the answers. So, Ethan Time. An actual allotted time every day. And all I do in that time (no more than half an hour, but I think I'm leaning towards 15 minutes anyway 'cause who has the time for that) is think about him. I allow the thoughts to come through. I let my mind drift with it. And then, at the end of the time, I say that's enough. And if thoughts come any other time throughout the day, I very gently remind myself that there will be time to think of that soon enough, just not yet. I dunno. It could work. I hope it works. I'm ready to stop having all these dreams. They've become more frequent and more vivid. But that just reminds me that this matters. And it's okay that it matters. It's human. And it was magic. And as we all know, I am quite the fan of magic.

4.9.15 - My Happy Place
She told me I could talk about it. If this is too personal for her, then she can tell me and I will remove this post.
A little while ago, my Little started a blog. She made her own version of my Smilation blog. It's really sweet. It has been great to see her find light in every day and work to be more optimistic. I can't tell you how happy she makes me or how much I adore her. thesmallthoughts.blogspot.com is quickly becoming one of my favorite websites. And the post for April 9th, the longer one, just about melted my heart. Because knowing you have made a difference in the life of someone who has also changed you for the better is such a blessing. I think we are both very blessed to have found each other. God knows what He's doing, and sending this girl into my life was a great move. Her post was something I needed to hear. And I won't cry, but I will hold it in my heart always.

Friendly Reminder
JuanJosé Medina is a great person and a true friend, and he loves me very much. These are things I knew, obviously. I've known them for several years. But I was reminded of that today. And, quite honestly, that thought has gotten me through this day. I am a very lucky girl :)
Edit: KARLA WAS AT THE PENTATONIX CONCERT TONIGHT. SHE WENT WITH NUBIA. AND NUBIA KNOWS KEVIN. AND KEVIN CALLED ME. AND SENT ME A CUTE VIDEO MESSAGE. AND I'M SHAKING I'M SO HAPPY. I DON'T THINK YOU UNDERSTAND HOW EMOTIONAL I AM RIGHT NOW AHHH.

McDaniel as a Home
Being at McDaniel isn't ALWAYS fun. There's lots and lots and lots of work to do. My room is not my own. There are too many people in those dorms. The bathrooms are often dirty. People smoke and drink everywhere all the time, which makes it hard to breathe and sleep respectively. There's this stupid middle school drama that, even when you're not a part of it, you are always witnessing. Stress is real. Good food is nonexistent. And don't get me started on the feeling of being away from home while on your period.
I am back in Silver Spring and, after seeing some old high school friends, watching a show at Einstein, and spending some time with my mommy, I've realized McDaniel is home. It's annoying and inconvenient. But it's home. Because here I have Karla and Cristina. On campus I have supportive friends everywhere. I have a Little who I love and who loves me. I have the best friend I could ever have as a roommate. I have a Twin who is there for me at all times. I have a theatre to fall in love with every day. I have a church who actually makes me feel loved and welcomed, AND teaches me new things every time I go. A church that makes me a better person. And now a counselor to help me through the tough times.
Don't get me wrong. I'm THRILLED to be home. I need this break. Plus I'll get to see lots of people I love here, too. But McDaniel is home. And that is a surprisingly fantastic feeling.

I Love the Hill
We were bombarded outside the dining hall today! By people in shirts that read "I Love the Hill"! They were giving out Hershey's kisses. And they asked us to write on these huge hearts why we loved the Hill (what we call McDaniel campus). And when you did it, you got a free shirt. And everything was really cute and sweet and positive and I loved it. What a great idea!

The Game Of Life
Karla: Eric, pay attention to what you're doing.
Eric: Sorry. Got me all distracted with your looks. Got me flustered.
Eric: Will that be enough?
Karla: That's more than enough!
Eric: I like my tea strong. Like I like my women. Yeah that's right. I'm talking about you.
Eric: -passing out life cards- one for Sammerz. And one for ma ladeh.

Whisper Words of Wisdom, Let It Be
So my mom went on a rant today. A pretty great one. It started off with "You shouldn't pray to God asking for your parents to have money. You should pray for our health, so that we can keep working and providing you with what you need". It was a long speech about how you should honor your parents because, even when they're wrong and drive you crazy and annoy you, they're the only ones you've got. And God gave them to you for a reason. These are the people God chose to be in your life, so we should love them. And everything she said is absolutely right. She then went on to talk about her dad. A man who pretty much walked out on her and my grandma before he was even able to make his presence felt in my mom's life. Does she agree with all that he's done? No, but he still is her father. She said, "If it weren't for him... we wouldn't have Baby Cristina!". That floored me. Seriously, the fact that she thought that far. Not just that he gave life to her, but she extended it to her daughters and her granddaughter. Never in a million years would I have thought of that. That's such an amazing thing to say, it's so big of her. I legitimately felt proud. You know, I truly see God making a difference in my life. Things are getting better all around. I can feel it. part of that is my relationships with people. And if my mom is included in that? Even better <3
This song has been stuck in my head today. God bless Sondheim.

I Wanna Witness Love
I Love You
You got me feeling warm inside all the ways I feel about you is nothing new or something I can hide you got me hooked with no line. In Love with no arrow or bot. Hot with no fire and cooled without no ice. Flying with no wings. Swayed with how you look. Overtaken by your mind. Stopped in my track like I was frozen in time. I feel all this and more and then some but it's easier for me to say
I Love You
-- A love note we found in an old desk at church. I don't know who wrote it. I don't know who it was for. I don't know when it was written. But I thought it should be shared somehow.
Reason 361: I've witnessed love. I've heard stories and seen pictures and watched movies. I know what true love can be. Just because I haven't lived it doesn't mean I don't know that love exists. I know love exists. I see proof of it all the time. Stuff like this? Cheesy corny not so clever notes? Maybe this kid was in love. Maybe not. But love is a beautiful thing that should be expressed. AND should be appreciated. I have no time to be bitter. People might see a note like this and think "I've never gotten one". Prom proposals? The only people who dislike them are the ones that didn't get one. It's so sweet! All of it. Love is so great. And I'm glad that I know it's worth waiting for. I'm glad I'm not bitter. I'm glad I can be happy for other people. I'm glad that, if I ever do find it, it will be so incredible.

Dance With My Father: Bowen Bounce
Reason 338: "You know people don't eat their shirts. Moths eat their shirts. But you're not a moth! You're a happy, beautiful baby girl. Daddy loves you. Let's dance, babygirl. Dance with your Daddy".
I'm spending the night at Karla & Eric's. Supposedly, I'm learning how to babysit, though I think all Cristina wants is to be with her parents. I just love her so much. And I love seeing her. Also, I really love seeing Eric. He's already so protective and so playful. He truly loves this little girl with all his heart. It's enchanting to watch. The fact that he loves my sister so much, and that out of that love came this beautiful girl who he loves so much... that amazes me. I could almost cry at how beautiful it is. Raising a child is not easy, especially for first timers. And this little girl can get fussy. But I have no doubt in my mind that Karla & Eric make amazing parents. They are being led by the word of God, and following their hearts which are full of nothing but love for Cristina.

Reason 308: First off, can we take a moment to appreciate that Madeon is my age? Like, he just turned 19 two days ago (Cristina's birthday!). 1994. My. Age. Like, I've always been super in love with him and had serious respect for him and his art. But now I can like... marry him.
ANYSWOOZIES! I also found this today. Oh my dang. I can't. How do you "just make" this? It's so good.
Put on your impressed face O.O
